If you're a guitar player, you know that practicing is essential to improving your skills and reaching your musical goals. But with so many different techniques and approaches to practicing, it can be overwhelming to know where to start.
One of the key aspects of effective guitar practice is setting clear, specific goals for each practice throught the week. A good weekly practice schedule for a beginner guitar player is to start with short practice sessions a few times a week and gradually increase the length and frequency of your practice sessions as you progress.
Start with practicing for 15-20 minutes a few times a week. This will help you develop the habit of practicing regularly without overwhelming yourself.
I always picking the days let's say Mon, Wed, Fri and Sat/Sun as an option day. Focus on on different aspects of your guitar playing on the different days
Mon - Start with something easy your comfortable with let's say C major scale.
Wed - Finger exercise (see picture above).
Fri - The chords you have learnt either play them one at a time on in a progression using a metronome
Sat/Sun - Keep it open and play whatever you want and keep it fun
Therefore on all days your combining guitar techniques and music theory.
Try to find a regular time each day to practice. This will help you develop a routine and make it easier to stick to your practice schedule. I usually practice after 9pm as my kids are asleep and it calms me down before bed. I do my usual exercises for 5-10 mins and then play to a backing track enabling me to use scales, chords and improvisation. I do get carried away at times and end up sleeping late lol
Finally, remember to have fun and enjoy the process of learning to play the guitar. It's important to stay motivated and keep a positive attitude, even if you encounter challenges along the way.
